I am a recently retired 66 year old who is looking to lose weight despite some health issues. I live in the Pacific Northwest, but I am 6'3" and now, 278 lbs. I would like to lose 43 more pounds. Back and leg problems have in the past kept me from getting out and enjoying our beautiful walkways. I can walk shorter distances, and with practice may get much better at that. I believe in eating for taste and for health. That is why my wife and I eat a variety of Mediterranean foods. It is one of the better diets for heart health, diabetes prevention, and lower inflammatory problems. Also, hopefully it will help me lose weight. However, my basic eating guidelines came from Spark radio. There are two of them: Eat only when you are hungry, and eat till you are satisfied, not full. By using this credo, I have been able to gradually take off weight. I too believe in exercise for health. That is why I started working out at the gym on 4/13/2014. There is nothing I know of that contributes to overall wellbeing than good fitness. Coming in a close second, is reducing ones stress level. Meditation can help considerably, but sometimes, it takes drastic changes in one's life circumstance to really get to reknow that relaxed self that we all have somewhere in us. Though I'm not much of a laugher, I value a sense of humor. In the coming year, I hope to see more comedies, possibly read some witty things, lighten up and smile more. I have a new objective. For every five pounds I lose, I can buy a new comedy DVD. That will build up my collection of funny stuff for a while. Fitness can really help people feel better from the inside out.

My Goals:
My goals were to LOSE 82 lbs and get MOOVVING once again. Well, since then I am down a total of 39 lbs, and did get moving.
My Program:
New eating guidelines will be to eat only when hungry, and eat only till satisfied, not full. Also, working out at the gym three days per week, where I am focusing on overall body strengthening and some aerobics. And I hope to get in some nature walks, for the pure joy of walking. I might fit in few bike rides too, in scenic areas.
Personal Information:
I live in a wooded area outside of Olympia, Washington and am an early retiree. I have a six year old granddaughter who is just adorable and a five year old grandson, in addition to our newest family member, a one year old granddaughter.
Other Information:
I recently found this quote, and it speaks to me: "Live all you can: It's a mistake not to." Another: "Some people dream about success. Others wake up and work hard at it." And: "Work like you don't need the money. Love like you've never been hurt. Dance like nobody's watching." Satchel Paige "You don't know what is enough unless you know what is more than enough." Whew, I am so thankful that you decided to skip it Glenn! I am so lucky because I don't really like animal foods. I still slip up with french fries, fried in oil sometimes. I do love them! But SO not good for me. When I got a scan for something else they said I do have a little bit of coronary artery build up. :-(

Glenn: Thank you for your comment on my blog, "The circle of life." I truly AM blessed to have had BOTH my parents guiding me thru life. Mom passed on 02 November 2017 and I miss them dearly. But at least they're together. That's how they wanted it.
