I totally agree with that. If I'm hurt or hurting. It's so easy to react out of my hurt.

To respond properly. I really have to step outside myself.

Never going to become that obnoxious healthy person! You know what I am talking about!

On Monday, after we got 4 or 5 inches of snow, a friend came and plowed my driveway with his plow truck. That was nice. And of course, my neighbor took care of my sidewalk! I just had to do the walkway to my front door.

A local radio host also paid me a compliment on air yesterday morning. I had seen them at an event the night before and I asked an interesting question about something that had happened on his TV show about a month ago. The compliment was a nice thing on a day that otherwise sucked.

am glad to read these new stories. I didn't miss hearing all the negative news on my vacation. Love hearing these positive stories. I hope to have a new current story soon.

I am suppose to get together with an grandma that is raising her daughters kids, due to addiction problems. I hope to assist her in some way, in addition to being her grand daughters teacher.

I wanted to share the link to the "Spread Sunshine Gang". They are a group here in the Twin Cities of Minnesota that does kind things. I saw a news story on them to share that they leave winter outerwear around in parks and such for homeless and less fortunate people. They also notify the homeless shelters. Just made my day to see the story!

Well, I was finally able to confirm which neighbor plowed my sidewalk with his ATV snow plow. It was the one across the street, which surprised me because he seems rather gruff. He was out while I was shoveling my walkway and driveway. It was nice to be able to actually say thank you.

Prayer is the key. A very sweet friend of mine lost her mother this weekend. Even though she knows I will be there for her and do whatever I can to help her through this difficult time, she mainly needs my prayers. God is the one who will have to give her the strength to get through this and to carry on to take care of her father is the future.

Let's see... I thought of a " kindness " this morning. Two people called me this morning, that some meetings were canceled due to sick members. If these people didn't live so far.. I could put a basket by their door with fresh chicken soup, lozenges, cold eeze, and foodies.

I could send a card and pray for their improvement.

I love that idea. Do you have any pictures you could share with us so we can see what you paint? I found one on our church grounds and it was so pretty.

I have left little notes around saying "You are special." That made me feel good.

My neighbor took care of abused birds. Like parrots, finches, lovebirds , and whatever. So told me, that some were not allowed on her shoulder or on ones head, because then they would not obey, and chew up everything.

I have an online friend in NM. He and his wife volunteer with the Santa Fe Animal Shelter. They foster kittens, usually 4 at a time. They have 2 dogs and 2 cats of their own (all rescues), so the kittens they foster are acclimated to people and animals.

They've been doing this for several years. I'm sure they are well into triple digits on the number of animals they have helped save.

A couple weeks ago I was ordering food at Chipotle's. The man in front of me said to the cashier, I've got hers. Then he turned to me, smiled and said, "Have a wonderful day."

That made my entire week! Such a spontaneous kindness.

Warmly,

what a resolution emoticon . I think I mentioned here helping that man get some decent clothing, so he could leave the nursing home unembarrassed( and gloves.) It made me both of us happy, but the warm afterglow is till there. It was really something how it spread out to a group of people.

It all started with seeing his value by looking into his eyes and hearing his heart.

BTW- yesterday I saw a Christmas movie. It was called, The 12 Days of Christmas ( or something like that ). It was really cool, and it does relate to this thread. I blieve it might of been a Hallmark or Up movie ( not sure ).

I've been some books at the library about gratefulness and kindness. I do think they are inspiriting. However, for some the motivation is more toward " themselves " .

A couple of years ago my resolution was to do 1000 kindnesses that year. Ones for family didn't count, ones I do normally didn't count and ones I got paid for didn't count. It was surprisingly easy to accomplish long before the year was up.

@MAJESTY8 That's exactly what I aimed to get at with this thread. The neighbor who takes an extra 2 minutes to plow my sidewalk saved me 5 minutes in the bitter cold. That was HUGE to me.

I am hoping that we can focus on being kind as there is so much division and hatred and finger pointing, especially here in the USA. I am trying to accentuate the positive with this thread. I am tired of the nastiness and trolls. I like the positive nature of this thread.

Is it possible to answer this? The fact that a kindness made a difference, touched you enough that you want to share it, means that it wasn't really small. I think all kindesses by nature are huge. Most of the time we have no idea how much it meant to the recipient. Just my thought.

oh good to have others sharing. These are all wonderful examples. It gives one hope in the world. The media, and most people tend to focus all all the problems.I get sick of the fighting

I will be brainstorming some things I can maybe do for others this year. I can share a little and that. Others can pop in with that idea, or examples of this thread. What a fun way of starting the new year. It's more doable than keeping resolutions or goals...

My mom and dad recently had someone go out of their way for them to get the attention of a waitstaff who had left them sitting for too long. It was a stranger. At the end of the meal, my parents found out the family had also paid for their meal.

I also have the best neighbors in the world. They frequently see me shoveling and come over with a plow or snowblower to help. A few weeks ago, before the snow fell, a neighbor saw me trying to clear the leaves out of the gutter with a leaf blower. When he saw the ladder come out he set it up, got on the roof, blew out the gutter, and cleared off the leaves from the whole roof. He did a better job than I would have!

I occasionally bring treats and goodies to co-workers. They love starting the day out with donuts. Sometimes I will buy a coffee for one or two of them.

it's still thoughtful.

Another thing, if I write a thank you card, or bring a homewarming gift for dinner... that gets someone feeling happy. I had it done to me once, and have tried to do it sometimes. Used to be common courtesy once upon a time

I have another example of something nice that happened to me. A neighbor of mine plowed my sidewalk! It hasn't really snowed this year. Well, at least not enough in my area to really require plowing or shoveling.

I really appreciate it, especially as it's bitter cold right now here in Minnesota. I don't have much area that needs shoveling, just my short driveway, walkway to my home, and my portion of the sidewalk but I only have a shovel.

Yes, this is a wonderful idea about adopting or helping out a family. Did you find one? What happened. I got some small gifts for the friends of the disabled man, I talked about before. Some of them have no family.

I hope to give it to them, after I get my mountain of laundry done. our washer was out.

I love Texas A&M University, one of the largest universities in the country, and one that encourages an attitude of community service in its students through a variety of opportunities.

Several engineering students from their College of Engineering will be using their engineering skills in giving up their Christmas holidays by volunteering with FEMA to help advance recovery attempts after Hurricane Harvey in the Houston area.

I've heard these kind of things too. It seems that the shows love to see which ones outdo each other. I LOVE the ones when they tell us the opposite. You know, when somebody does something nice for another.

It's so very much uplifting. emoticon

Last night as dusk fell, I filled up my tank at the gas station, and then my car wouldn't start (battery was deader than a mackerel), but the man filling his truck on the other side of my gas pump noticed, got his jumper cables, and gave my poor car a jump, and then answered all my questions about what I needed...

I was listening to a local radio station yesterday and they spent about 30 minutes/2 radio segments on the rudest thing you have ever been told. They let people call in to share their stories. It was a good reminder that people really should put thought into their words as well as actions. So, remember to choose your words wisely.
